Emir of Dutse, Oyinlola to bring golf to poor Nigerians

- Stories by Tony Akhigbe

The Emir of Dutse and the Chairman of Golf course owners in Nigeria, His Highness, Dr. Nuhu Muhammed Sanusi, is presently parleying with the President of the Nigeria Golf Federation, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, on ways to get the game to all Nigerians.

He mentioned that with little arrangement many kids who dream to play the game can do so.

“I am usually amazed when I see my kids playing with my golf equipment in the palace. Even without getting to the golf course, they enjoy playing with the equipment. I believe this is way most of our kids in this country will enjoy the game.

“Honestly, this prompted me to put a call to the NGF President, Prince Oyinlola. I just want us to change the face of golf in Nigeria. I must tell you that Prince Oyinlola is such a humble man. He readily agreed for us to meet and develop the nation’s golf. I must say this. I won’t ask the Prince for much. All I need from him is to create public golf courses in our six regions of the country. I mean you don’t have to come from a rich home where your father is a member of a private golf club before you play the game. Every kid should have access to a golf course, especially now that the game is an Olympic sport”.
