Teacher caught impersonating brother in UTME

- By Misbahu Bashir

A primary school teacher, Samuel Timothy, 30, who allegedly impersonated his brother and sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has been arrested.

Timothy, who was arrested at the Air Mass Computer Institute in Madalla, Niger State, was paraded by officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and those of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

JAMB Supervisor at the institute, Sakina Tafida, said the suspect evaded screening strategies and sneaked into the exam hall.

“But we found that the number of exam slips we collected after fingerprint screening was less than the number of candidates in the hall. He skipped fingerprint device and the photograph on the slip he gave us later was that of his brother, Samson Samuel,” she said.

She said that Timothy confessed to have impersonated his brother who was sick. When asked, Timothy said he worked as a teacher at a primary school in Gwagwalada, Abuja and decided to impersonate his brother on the exam “because my brother was sick.”

JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, said most exam malpractices were carried out with the help of parents and private tutorial centre owners.
