- By Olusola ‘Jide

@jide_olusola Heartland FC of Owerri remain at the bottom of the Nigeria Professional Football League table following the 2-1 defeat to Akwa United yesterday evening at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. The Owerri side took through Francis Momoh the in lead 22nd minute with a tap-in but Akwa United replied with two goals through an Ifeanyi Ifeanyi free kick in the 33rd minute and Katou Haggai goal in the 48th minute of the encounter.

With the spark on, Onyechefula Onyebuchi and Nnamdi Egbujor were both given yellow cards, and in the 63rd minute, Egbujor received his second yellow card for diving and was sent off thus reducing his team to 10 men.

Despite the deficit in personnel, Heartland threw more men in a desperate bid to rescue at least a point but their efforts amounted to nothing as they fell to their third consecutive defeat.

With the victory, Akwa United have displaced Kano Pillars and move to the second position while Heartland stay on the 18th position.
