‘GOtv committed to producing Nigerian world boxing champion’

The GOtv has expressed its determinat­ion to ensure that a Nigerian born and bred boxing champion is produced in the nearest future.

At a briefing to announce, the 14th edition of the GOtv Boxing Night in Lagos, the Chief Executive Officer, Flykite Production­s, Jenkins Alumona, said since the interventi­on of the cable television service provider, the boxing in Nigeria has grown in leaps and bound and as such, it would not relent in ensuring that more champions are created out of the country.

“With GOtv, Nigeria has produced three African champions and it is hoped that the fourth African champion will soon be produced. Our objective is to ensure that Nigeria regains its leading status in the boxing world, while the ultimate aim is for us to see to the nurturing of a Nigerian born and bred world boxing champion,” Alumona said.

The Flykite Production­s CEO also explained that the forthcomin­g African Boxing Union (ABU) title bout between Nigeria’s Waidi “Skoro” Usman and Michael “Shaka” Nyawade of Kenya would be hosted at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos, on 14

April, 2018. He recalled that Skoro lost a bid to win the African Boxing Union featherwei­ght title bout to Edward Kakembo of Uganda in 2015.

“The event returns to the National Stadium after it was staged at the Landmark Centre in December. And aside the ABU bout coming up between Skoro and Shaka, there are six other bouts lined up for the night including the West African Boxing Union welterweig­ht title bout between Rilwan ‘Babyface’ Babatunde and Djossou ‘Agoy’ Basile of the Republic of Benin,” Alumona said.
