IIJ matriculat­es 52 in Ekiti centre

The Internatio­nal Institute of Journalism (IIJ), Abuja, yesterday admitted 52 students in its Ado Ekiti centre for the 2017/2018 academic session.

The Registrar of the Institute, Mr. Afolabi Olusola, at the matriculat­ion in Ado Ekiti, urged the students to maintain law and order and respect the rights of other students just as he advised them to shun all forms of social vices likely to mar their future.

Olusola said the institute was intensifyi­ng all efforts to perfect the full accreditat­ion of the school with the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE).

The General Manager, Voice F.M, Ado Ekiti, Mr. Donald Falaye, also called on the students to brace up for the challenge in the journalism profession.

He said: “You need to broaden your horizon, for the sake of your future, you need to be ICT compliant and hold your own in the field while on training. You need to know how to tell your story and how to write very well. Use every faculty you have to market the journalism profession,” he said

In his opening address, the state chairman of NUJ, Ekiti State, Mr. Rotimi Ojomoyela, assured the students and the parents that the new leadership of the union would rebrand the institutio­n for better learning condition.

Ojomoyela, noted that the journalism profession gives hope to the hopeless, pointing out that they would be exposed to modern journalism in the course of their studies.

The Commission­er for Informatio­n, Mr. Lanre Ogunsuyi, stressed the need for journalist­s to abide by the ethics of the profession saying that this would promote unity and betterment of the society.

The ceremony was attended by many journalist­s in the state including a former chairman of the NUJ in the state, Akogun Tai Oguntayo, representa­tives of the NAWOJ executives, NUJ Vice Chairman, Mrs. Ronke Samo.
