Winners emerge in Abuja Junior Tennis Championsh­ip

The 2018 edition of the Abuja Junior Tennis Championsh­ip organised by the FCT Tennis Associatio­n ended over the weekend in Abuja with winners emerging in different categories.

The three-day championsh­ip which attracted kids in Abuja and environs, saw boys and girls competing for prizes in 10-Under, 12-Under, 14-Under,and 16-Under.

In the boys 10 and Under, Isa Musa emerged winner, Atulu Onoja came second just as Amir Mohammed and Salem Chimezie settled for third place.

Khadijat Mohammed, Favour Godwin and Mary Azi came first, second and third respective­ly in the girls 10 and under category.

For the boys 12 and Under, Ezekiel Azi defeated Saidu Sani in the finals while Lucky Danjuma and Mohammed Idris came third.

Iye Onoja defeated Laila Mohammed in the finals of the Girls 12 and Under while Haruna Salamatu came third.

In the boys 14 and under finals, Canice Abua came first, Michael emerged runner up while Isaac Danjuma and Ojente Friday came third.

Iye Onoja emerged double champion as she defeated Esther Azi for the second time in the finals of the Girls 14 and Under just as Naomi Sunday and Neku Onoja came third.

In the Boys 16-Under, Suleiman Mohammed overpowere­d Ali Abubakar in the final to come first while Adulsalam Mohammed and Jibril Adamu came third.

Speaking during the presentati­on of prizes, the President of Nigeria Tennis Federation, Dayo Akindoju who doubles as Chairman of FCT Tennis Associatio­n commended the brilliant displays by the players.

He urged them to continue to work hard on their game in order to become big players in future.
