The Kano State government has donated N13.5m to 41 Nigeria Nationwide Football League One clubs in the state.

A statement signed by the Director General, Media and Communications, Government House, Alhaji Ameen K. Yassar, said Seven Division One clubs were given N500, 000 each, 15 Division two clubs got N350, 000 each, while 19 Division three clubs went home with N250, 000 each.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony at the Government House in Kano, the state Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said the gesture was part of the government’s determination to motivate the clubs to strive for excellence in national and international competitions.

“I am happy that your clubs are doing well and as a government, we should encourage you to do better. We share your passion for the game and we will do our best to create the enabling environment for you to do better.

“Not too long ago, we donated money and a variety of football kits to 1,206 football clubs in the state as part of our commitment to the development of sports,” he said.

He noted that football was not just a game but a major instrument of promoting peaceful co-existence, bridging cultural gaps and a critical factor in international relations.

The governor, therefore charged football clubs in Kano to sustain their zeal, assuring that his administration would not relent in supporting them to win accolades for the state.
