…Technical c’ttee may be unveiled today — Spokesman

- By Muideen Olaniyi

The National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, said yesterday that the list of membership of a technical committee set up to advise the party over tenure elongation controversy may be released today.

He was responding to an enquiry by one of the APC correspondents on when the technical committee would be unveiled.

“We are still working on it. By tomorrow (today), we shall make the list public,” he said.

The APC spokesman had while fielding questions from journalists after the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, announced the constitution of the technical committee.

Abdullahi added that the decision of NEC to extend tenure of party officials by one year still subsists pending the outcome of the task of the committee whose composition, he promised, would be made known soon.

He said, “The president was gracious enough to say well, this is my thinking. But I still want to subject it to debate by NEC. So, members of NEC thanked the president for still throwing the issue to them for a debate,” he said.

The technical committee is expected to come out with a clear-cut position on the pronouncement of President Muhammadu Buhari that the decision to extend the tenure of the party executives at various levels by one year contravened not only the party constitution but that of Nigeria as well.

The APC NEC had at the February 27, 2018 NEC meeting extended the tenure of current party officials at all levels by one year, a decision that angered some members who had sued the party leadership.
