- By Clement A. Oloyede

A suspect paraded for stealing a car given to him to wash by a customer has said he stole the car and used the money he got from the sales to fund his wedding.

Speaking with journalists during his parade by the FCT Police yesterday, the suspect, Mohammed Chado said it was his first time of stealing a car and that he was a driver before he ventured into car washing business.

“I don’t have a shop; I manage in one area in resettlement. When just Apo they gave me the Toyota car, I ran away with it, sold it and used the money to marry,” he said, adding that he was not pressurized to marry but that it was the devil that led him to commit the crime.

Parading the suspect, FCT Police Commissioner, Sadiq Bello said the suspect was arrested on March 7 at Bafete Village in Niger state where he was hiding after he sold the car that was given to him for washing. “He escaped with it, sold it for N450,000 and used the money to marry a wife. The stolen car has been recovered,” he added.

Bello said the command also smashed and arrested members of a housebreaking syndicate that broke into Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) at Mabushi on February 28 and stole five plasma television sets, two cameras and wall fans.

He said, “Discreet investigation launched led to the arrest of three suspects and receivers; they are: Munir Abdullahi, 26; Hayatu Ya’u, 29; Muhammed Isah, 33; Abba Bashir, 27; and Salisu Muhammed, 29. Exhibits recovered from the receivers are nine flat screen TV set and one desktop computer.”
