Controversy trails Whatsapp ‘picture’ of Bindow It’s a photoshop ploy by mischief makers – Govt

- From Kabiru R. Anwar, Yola

Apicture showing Governor Muhammadu Jibrilla purportedly collecting money in dollars from a Lebanese contractor is stirring a controversy in Adamawa State, but the government has said a mischief maker photoshopped a scene for a devilish end.

The picture shared on whatsapp showed the governor sitting in his living room while the contractor and a permanent secretary in the government squatted with wads of dollars arranged on the floor.

The picture drew criticism from members of the public who have called for probe while supporters of the governor have insisted it was put up by trouble makers to embarrass the governor.

“We need this to be probed to put the record straight. This government launched an anticorruption summit that attracted President Muhammadu Buhari and it needs to show to the people that it is corruption-free by allowing full investigation into the matter,” a public commentator, Yakubu Bappa said.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Yohanna Mathias, told newsmen that he did not see the viral picture and could therefore not comment on it, but the Special Assistant to the governor on Media, Martins Dickson, said the money shown in the controversial picture was imposed to create a false impression.

“There is a real picture of the said people with the governor deliberating, but the money placed beside them is mere photoshop,” Dickson said.
