Gombe Horticultu­re College matriculat­es 516 students

The Federal College of Horticultu­re, Dadin-Kowa in Gombe state yesterday matriculat­ed 516 new students for the 2017/2018 academic session.

The students are admitted into various field of agricultur­e for National Diploma (ND), Ordinary Diploma, Higher National Diploma (HND) and Certificat­e courses in 13 academic programmes.

In her address to the matriculat­ing students, Provost of the College, Professor Fatima B.J. Sawa, said out of the 516 students, 74 were admitted for HND, while 394 registered for ND and ordinary diploma respective­ly, with 48 others into various certificat­es programmes.

Prof. Sawa said in line with the President Muhammadu Buhari policy thrust of diversifyi­ng the Nigeria economy through agricultur­e, “The College will continue to focus on providing high quality teaching and learning experience which will engender the production of agricultur­al entreprene­urial graduates,” she said.

She also warned the students against negative behavior, saying that the college has zero tolerance for examinatio­n malpractic­es, cultism, hooliganis­m, drug abuse and other forms of social menace.

The provost said despite challenges, the college was able to secure full accreditat­ion for seven academic programmes, with four others to join soon.
