Actress Matilda launches platform to tackle N/Delta challenges

As a way of restoring the green economy of the Niger, Nollywood Actress, Matilda Gogo Lambert is set to launch her not-for-profit Foundation, ‘Tilda Goes Green’ to showcase tourism potentials, culture, heritage and the aesthetics of the region.

Matilda from Rivers State said her foundation has a 13-goal agenda with a vision of bringing forth a green environmen­t in the light of the growing challenges of the climate changes in the Niger Delta.

She noted that the project will be in the area of education, innovation­s, planting of trees and engage the youths in meaningful activities that will better their lives.

“Tilda goes green intends to catch them young and take the youth off the street from youth restivenes­s and other social vices,” she noted.

The producer of a trending Nollywood film, ‘Deepest Cut’ said she was inspired by the oil spillage that occurred in Andoni local government area of Rivers state where she hails from. She conceived the idea of the platform to help address the challenges facing her people and the region.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, Engr. George Iwo said the 13 set goals of the NGO is to restore back the green environmen­t of the Niger delta and showcase the culture and tourism potentials of the region to the world at large.

Engr. George Iwo added that Eco- Culture, EcoTourism and Eco-Heritage is aimed at making sure people appreciate the culture and heritage of the Niger Delta. A Nigerian anti-corruption youth group, the Creative Youth Initiative Against Corruption (CYIAC), has emerged the winner of the Innovative Category of the first United Nations Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals Action Awards.

At the awards ceremony in Bonn, Germany, on Wednesday, Markus Hipp, the Director, BMW Foundation, presented the Innovative Category top award to Ms Foluke Michael,
