A vigilante group in Katsina State have dragged a ward head and a military officer before the Emir of Katsina for alleged extortion and molestation.

Abdullahi Kawun Baraka, speaking on behalf of the vigilante group of Marabar Maigora in Machika ward of Sabuwa LGA before the emir, accused both the ward head of Kwanar Kura, Mai Unguwa Mika and one army officer, identified as a captain for allegedly conniving to detain four of its members for eight days without any explanation.

He said: “After we were released we realised that our parents had to part with N280,000 to secure of our release.”

He said they sustained various degrees of injuries, adding that Mika allegedly reported the group to the army and accused members of the group of banditry.

“We seek your noble palace to intervene and do justice to us. We wonder why we were attacked, we are a duly certified vigilante group that was created after killing of 53 persons in our area. We have all the blessings of our traditional rulers of the area,” he said

Responding, the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumin Kabir Usman, promised to look into the matter with a view to doing justice.

Reacting, Mai Unguwa Mika said the allegation was baseless, adding that he did not know any soldier nor contacted the army.

Efforts to get the military’s reaction proved abortive.
