Niger partners private developer on mass housing
Niger State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Karawusa Properties Limited through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) for the provision of affordable mass housing scheme for civil and public servants at Karawusa metropolis, along AbujaKaduna express way.
A statement by the Public Relation Officer in the state ministry for land and housing, Hajiya Sadiya Imam said Malam Musa Isah Kanko, the commissioner in charge of the ministry signed, while Chief Emeka Wogu of Karawusa properties, a former minister of Labour and Productivity performed the ceremony on behalf of Karawusa.
“We are opening up Suleja because as at now, it is congested and I just finished signing the master plan of a new Suleja,” the statement said.
“We are inviting investors, developers to come and partner with Niger State government to come and develop the area,” the statement quoted the commissioner as saying.
The statement said the agreement would not only help in reducing the housing deficit in the country, but will also create employment opportunities for the people of the area.
According to the statement Chief Wogu in his address said the gesture was part of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello’s commitment at making the investment climate conducive for interested companies to take advantage.
He said that the location of the project was very strategic for both the state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) because of its closeness to some federal institutions and important national monuments.
He said the 1,200 units of houses to be built will be in different categories of blocks of two and three bedroom flats; semi and fully detached, four bedroom terrace apartments and four bedroom duplex fully detached.
