Effect of undue waste disposal

-

Wastes and refuse is gradually taking over our communities, urban and city centers. Our community is faced with a problem of inadequate waste disposal and dwindling recycling management practice. Urban centers and slums the collection of miscellaneous items such as broken bottles, shattered glasses, cans, scraps metal and other types of disposed objects.

In recent years refuse have taken quite a large areas within our vicinities, due to the indiscriminate ways of dumping waste within our vicinities, these virtually, occupies and causes physical obstruction, and endanger human life. Waste have become a breeding ground fly insects such as flies and mosquitoes which causes cholera and other waste borne diseases that are harmful to man, there is also an increase in the rate of water pollution as a result of persistent waste disposal into the water ways.

This practice distinguishes the image of society leading to dwindling urbanization. The consequence of flies implies act constitutes the blockage of the water channels, drainage which may ultimately lead to flood disaster.

The burning of waste in an open environment is a common practice in our societies. This emits a pool of thick black smoke which discharged gaseous substance that is generally harmful to human being and the environment. The act or burning solid waste openly instead of incinerators contributes immensely to air pollution which deletes the ozone layer a major cause of climate changing condition increase the risk of disaster such as flood, strong wind and even global warming and all sort of abnormal weather conditions as a result of such ill practice.

There is proper need on the part of Government through its agencies to step up action to curb and maintain the environment in order to overcome these challenges. Government should educate its citizen to stop seen waste as a problem rather than a business opportunity unlike other countries of the world that where there is laid down structure, to curb, manage and recycle waste either solid or not, scrap metal are taken to industries where they are crushed and melted to reproduce new products which will contribute to gross domestic product (GDP) and increase in revenue generation as well as create employment opportunities.
