Nwosu urges students to take active part in sports

A former Super Eagles captain, Henry Nwosu has urged primary and secondary school students to pursue both academic and sport excellence.

He gave the charge during the second edition of Phidel School Idimu inter-house sports competitio­n held at Agege Stadium.

Nwosu implored them to be dedicated to their academics, adding that taking active part in sporting activities helps to check cultism and other social vices, as well as help in the discovery of talents who would make Nigeria proud in all forms of sports.

Kayode Olusemire House also known as Red House emerged overall winner of the second inter-house sport meet.

Red House won a total of 23 gold medals, 16 sliver and seven bronze medals ahead of Funmi Peter House (Blue) which got 11 gold medals, 12 sliver and 15 bronze. The third position went to Taiye Ige (Yellow) which settled for nine gold medals, nine sliver and 21 bronze medals.

Etim Bassey house (Green) came fourth with seven gold medals, 13 silver and nine bronze medals.

Red House got a total of 110 points to claim first position in the primary school match pass category where they showcased Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.

Blue house with 98 points came second ahead of yellow 94 points and Green 90 points who finished third and forth respective­ly.

The college match pass was won by the yellow house ahead of Red, Blue and Green respective­ly.

Principal of the school, Ben Akintelure said Phidel School’s vision remains to build a total child which is why the school has provided sporting facilities like badminton, basketball, tennis, table tennis, football, gymnasium, athletics and swimming pool to compliment educationa­l facilities.
