New terminal buildings ready August – FAAN
New international terminal buildings at five major international airports across the country will be ready by August 2018, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has said.
The five airports are the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport Kano, the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos and the Port Harcourt International Airport. The terminals are being built with over $500m from the Chinese Government. The Nigerian Government provided $100m counterpart funding.
The facilities have suffered several completion date postponements due to funding issues, but FAAN has said it was inches close to their completion as the funding issues had been resolved.
The management of FAAN, on a courtesy call to Media Trust Limited (Publishers of Daily Trust and other Trust titles) said the new international terminal buildings should be ready between July and August 2018.
The FAAN team led by the Director, Commercial and Business Development (DCBD), Mr. Sadiku Rafindadi, said, “The latest date we have now is July to August 2018. We had issues with funding, but the Federal Government has approved additional funds; so we are targeting July to August 2018, with which those terminal facilities will be functional or operational.”
Mr. Rafindadi also assured that FAAN would use the facilities to improve customers’ experience and safety at the airports.
“The first priority is Lagos and Abuja, then Port Harcourt, Kano and Enugu will follow. Possibly, all of these five terminals should be ready by August 2018,” he noted.
On the FAAN delegation were the Regional General Manager/Airport Manager, Mr. Mamuda Sani, and the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu.
