Prof Yadudu heads NBA election c’ttee

The Nigerian Bar Associatio­n has announced constituti­onal lawyer, Professor Auwalu Yadudu as the chairman of the forthcomin­g associatio­n’s election.

Prof Yadudu is to work with Tunde Busari (SAN), alternate chairman and Bolaji Agoro will serve as the secretary.

Inaugurati­ng the committee on Thursday, the President of the NBA, Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN) charged them to ensure the smooth conduct of the election into the national offices of the associatio­n later this year.

He warned that the ban on campaign will be lifted when the election committee sets the guidelines for the election.

The General Secretary of the NBA, Isiaka Olagunju said part of the committee’s responsibi­lities include to manage, conduct and set terms and guidelines for the election as well as fix the date for the election in line with the NBA Constituti­on.

The NBA election has been gearing up since December following the meetings held by the various regional associatio­ns ahead of the election. The presidency, which has been zoned to the Eastern Zone has seen the emergence of major front-runners.

Among the front-runners are: the current chairman of the NBA Committee on Criminal Justice and erudite legal scholar, Arthur Obi-Okafor (SAN); legal luminary, Prof. Ernest Ojukwu (SAN); active member of the NBA Executive Committee, Paul Usoro (SAN); former General Secretary, Afam Osigwe Esq. and a former executive member of Ikeazor Akariwe Esq.

Prof Yadudu, who obtained a Doctorate Degree in Law from Havard University, USA in 1985, was a member of the 2014 National Constituti­onal Conference. President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016 appointed him the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State. the NBA,
