NSCDC parades man over rape of 4-year-old girl in Yobe

- From Hamisu Kabir Matazu, Damaturu

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC), Yobe State command has paraded a 45-year-old man, Shu’aibu Yakubu, for allegedly raping a 4-year-old girl in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

The NSCDC Commandant, Mr Ayinla Taiye Olowo, said the mother of the girl reported the incident to the command on March 27, 2018 and the man was apprehended.

The commandant revealed that the little girl was playing in the neighbourhood when the suspect enticed her with sweet and took her into his apartment where he defiled her.

“The mother who reported the incident to us said she was bathing the girl when she complained of pain in her private part. When the mother insisted to know what happened, she said the man threatened that she would die if she told anyone about the rape.

“The mother rushed and lodged a complaint with our personnel who acted swiftly and arrested him. Lucky enough, he confessed to the offence, saying he was not in his senses when he defiled the girl,” he said.

He said after the confession, the command took both the suspect and the victim to a hospital where a test was conducted to ascertain their health status and the crime.

“After medical examination, they were both free from Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) but the girl had bruises. She was treated and discharged,” he added

He also expressed dismay over the spate of rape cases in Potiskum and Damaturu local government areas, while advising parents to avoid leaving their underaged children alone in their neighbourhoods to avoid falling prey to all sorts of abuses.

“Bad guys are all over trying to take advantage of them either for ritual purposes or sexual pleasure,” he added.
