Two Abuja-based clerics abducted in Edo

- By Adam Umar

Two Muslim clerics based in Abuja have been abducted while traveling back home from Ibadan in Oyo State where they attended a religious event.

Shakurullah Badewa and Shakurullah Akindele were abducted around Ibillo, a town in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area in Edo State on Sunday afternoon.

A woman traveling along with them when the incident happened, told our reporter yesterday that the abductors appeared before them after some distance from a military check point while heading toward Kogi State, and forced them to park.

She explained that they forced the two men into the bush and left her along with one of the cleric’s wife, after they collected their mobile phones.

She said some military men met them later and took them to their base along with their vehicle, before the matter was reported to a nearby police division after which their journey back home was facilitated.

The two abducted persons are officials of a Daawa group in Kubwa in the FCT and the matter is generating a lot of concern in the area with imams calling for prayers for God to touch the hearts of the abductors to release their victims safely.

It was not known if the abductors have contacted the family of their victims or demanded for ransom at the time of filing this report.
