The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has promised that all those behind last Thursday’s armed robbery attacks in Offa, Kwara State, will be duly prosecuted.

Some gunmen had invaded Offa, killing many people, injuring scores of others and carting away undisclosed amounts of money from five commercial banks and one micro-finance bank.

Lai Muhammed gave Federal Government’s assurance yesterday when he paid a condolence visit to the Kwara State Governor, Alhai Abdulfatha Ahmed, at the Government House Ilorin and the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye ll.

The minister said the Federal Government would continue to improve on its security provisions that would ensure adequate safety for all and sundry, adding that the entire nation was ‘‘shocked and grieved’’ by the acts of the armed robbers in Offa. He said, ‘‘What happened in Offa on Thursday shocked the entire nation and it is our prayers that the souls of all the victims will rest in peace and also that those badly injured would be healed very soon. I spoke yesterday with the IG and he assured me that all the people responsible for the dastardly act would be arrested and brought to justice.”

Speaking, Governor Abdulfattah Ahmed thanked the presidency for its intervention so far and expressed delight with the promise made by the Inspector General of Police to deploy an armoured personnel carrier that would be stationed specifically in Offa to prevent future occurrence.

In Offa, the Olofa of Offa Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi expressed concern that with the latest attacks on banks in Offa, there had been no banks operating in the entire Kwara South Senatorial District, and urged the Federal Government to tighten the security system in and around his domain.

The state Commissioner for Police, Lawan Ado, disclosed that an armoured personnel carrier and two mobile units of police were on their way to the state.
