Jigawa senator to contest against Gov Badaru

- From Aliyu M. Hamagam, Dutse

Senator Ubale Shitu (APC, Jigawa) has described the Governor Muhammadu Badaru Abubakarled administration as a “failed government” hence his decision to contest against the governor in 2019.

Shitu who made the disclosure yesterday while fielding questions from newsmen in Hadejia, said mobilisation towards ensuring that Governor Badaru did not come back to office in 2019 was in top gear.

The Senator, representing Jigawa North East, said the alleged failure of the present administration in all fronts had made the already impoverished economy of the state worse.

He said all sectors of development; including human capital, were begging for intervention.

On why he will contest against the governor despite the fact that they are from the same political family, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Shitu said it was not about political party, but about who had what in stock to offer the state.

He said he had all that it took in terms of political credentials to become the next governor of the state considering the number of projects he was able to attract to his constituency as a senator.

“For your information, I am not contesting for senate seat again. I am now going for the governorship position of the state. We are from same party, but that will not stop me from contesting against Badaru. I am telling you he has failed in all ramifications and for that, it will not be a big deal to wrest power from him,” he said.

Contacted, the governor’s spokesperson, Bello Zaki, said the senator’s allegations against the governor were baseless and urged members of the public not to accord any attention to the senator.
