‘Journalism has prepared me to succeed Ajimobi’

- From Jeremiah Oke, Ibadan

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the APC in Oyo State, Professor Adeolu Akande, yesterday, said journalism has prepared him to be a good, credible and the most experienced candidate who will succeed Gov. Abiola Ajimobi in 2019.

Prof. Akande said as a journalist and a political scientist, he had been taught how to run a good government and maintain a link between the government and the masses.

According to the former Chief of Staff to Gov. Ajimobi, the three areas where he invested his resources over the years were academics, public service and the media which he said had prepared him for the job.

Akande who is the Chairman of the National Technology Development Agency (NITDA), spoke with reporters in Ibadan over the weekend, where he dismissed insinuations that the people of Oke Ogun were not united in their quest to produce the next governor.

He said, “There is nobody who knows the public and government than journalists. We know who are the wicked people in society, the good people; people who are suffering and how government can help them. That is what journalists do and that is what I have done all my life. I have sentiment for good governance,” he said.

“I am a professor of comparative politics. The core of comparative politics is to know how best government is being run all over the world. That is what I have been doing since 1984, and I am still doing it. I have also consulted for federal and state government agencies. I think all these are enough for good governance,” he added.
