Work to resume on abandoned Kankara-Gurbi road – FG

- From Habibu Umar Aminu, Katsina

Work will soon resume on the abandoned Kankara-Gurbi road awarded by the Federal Government in 2013, the Controller, Federal Ministry of Works in Katsina, Mr Tunde Balogun, has said.

Speaking when he led a team of inspectors to the project site in company of Kanwa of Katsina and District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, Balogun noted that the inspection visit was sequel to an appeal by the people of the area which the Kanwa of Katsina forwarded to the Federal Ministry of Works.

He urged the communities of Gurbi to be patient as the contractor will soon resume work on site as the contract agreement experienced some problems which were now resolved.

Alhaji Bello Kankara while appreciating the visit of the controller, noted that the road also linked communities of Tsamiyar Jino, Gurbi, Dan Murabu and Katantau among others.

He charged the federal controller to ensure that the contractor resumed on site as scheduled to complete the project for the benefit of the communities.

Also speaking, the village head of Gurbi, Alhaji Yazidu Abdullahi, told the team of engineers that the biggest problem of the road was a big stream that needs a long bridge noting that patients’ conditions worsened on transit to hospital and farmers found it difficult to transport their harvests to nearby markets.

He therefore implored the controller to ensure that the contractor resumed to work on site and to start with the construction of the bridge.
