62 casual workers get permanent jobs after 19yrs

Sixty-two casual staff of the Katsina State Hotels and Tourism Board have been presented with permanent and pensionabl­e appointmen­ts by the Katsina State Government.

Some of the staff had been on casual status for over 19 years before this present conversion as promised them by Governor Aminu Masari three years ago.

Presenting them with their letters, the state Commission­er of Commerce, Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf, said the move was aimed at improving services at the board.

The Chairman of the committee, Ahmed Yerima, gave the assurance when he led members of the committee on an oversight function and interactio­n with the management of Enugu Electricit­y Distributi­on Company (EEDC) yesterday in Enugu.

He said, “We are looking for a way to meet all the TCN budgetary needs for the completion of their numerous ongoing integral part of the state government’s Restoratio­n Agenda, which had been pursued through the creation of thousands of employment opportunit­ies in the education, health and tourism sectors.

In his speech, the General Manager of the State Hotels and Tourism Board, Alhaji Abubakar Badaru Jikamshi, reiterated that some of the staff had served as casual workers for the last 19 years, as the board had not made new appointmen­ts for the past 22 years.

Jikamshi said the staff were deployed to the state-owned motels in Katsina, Daura, Funtua, Malumfashi and Dutsinma. power projects at various degrees of completion to ensure stable power supply in the country. These projects are critical. When completed and put to use they will translate to more jobs, more money and better security and general well-being of our people.”

Yerima (Misau/Dambam Federal Constituen­cy in Bauchi State) said the committee had fruitful deliberati­ons with the management of EEDC. Earlier, the Acting Managing Director of EEDC, Mr Paul Okeke, told the committee that the company had improved its operating reach, was using smart meters and metering system, as well as achieving ease of payment and reducing time of repairs of faulty installati­ons.
