Gunmen kill pastor in Edo, as police parade 28 suspects

Apastor with Christ Chosen Church of God has been killed by suspected gunmen in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.

It was gathered that the late pastor, Benson Isibor, was killed by his assailants while entering his house along First Oranmiyan Street, off road on Monday night.

The Commission­er of Police, Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, disclosed this yesterday in Benin while parading 28 suspects arrested for various crimes in the state.

Kokumo said the suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery and Siluko murder across the state.

He said the pastor was trailed by a group of armed men who opened fire on him while entering his compound, killing him on the spot.

“It was a clear case of murder. Yesterday, Pastor Benson Isibor was entering his compound when they killed him. He never suspected that the criminals were actually following him.”

Kokumo further disclosed that the police have arrested one Tahir Usman in connection with the killing of Pastor Pius Eromonsele in Odighi in Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state.

The commission­er also disclosed that one Abubakar Ilyasu suspected to be a member of a kidnapping syndicate terrorisin­g Auchi and its environs had been arrested. He said among the suspects were two kidnappers who disguised as herders but were arrested in the bush in Afuze area of Owan East Local Government Area.

The commission­er said the suspects confessed to the crime during investigat­ion, adding that they would soon be charged to court.
