Police, hunter kill 3 robbers, recover 251 illegal arms in Bauchi, Imo
The police in Bauchi State have killed three suspected armed robbers in a gun duel while attempting to unleash terror on residents.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Kamal Datti, said a combined team of IGP Monitoring Unit in conjunction with renowned hunter, Ali Kwara, trailed the three suspected armed robbers to Maladunba forest in Misau LGA while planning to attack unsuspecting members of the public.
“On sighting the team, the suspects engaged them in a fierce shoot out which lasted for some minutes. As a result, the three suspected armed robbers sustained injuries and were taken to the General Hospital Misau where a doctor certified them dead,” he said.
Datti said three AK47 rifles, one locally fabricated double barrel gun, 210 live ammunition of 7.62mm caliber, six cartridges and six empty AK47 riffle magazines were recovered suspects.
Other exhibits from the recovered were a silver coloured Golf 3 Station Wagon, one cutlass, two pairs of police uniforms and N16,900.
Datti added that the command also recovered a cache of illegal firearms and ammunitions from bandits and other suspects across the state.
He said the arms that were recovered were in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police and included 30 AK47 rifles, one AK49 rifle, five single barrel guns, 20 fabricated guns and two double barrel guns.
Other arms recovered include; four pump action guns, one K2 rifle, 20 pistols, 702 live ammunitions and 70 cartridges.
He said the command is still calling on members of the public to surrender illegal arms and ammunitions in their possession in view of the extension of the deadline for submission.
Similarly, Imo State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, yesterday displayed 168 guns, 99 cartridges, 2323 ammunition and 25 empty magazines surrendered to the police in the state.
