'Senate invasion plot to discredit Saraki'

- By Isiaka Wakili

A group, the North Central Stakeholders Forum for Good Governance, has described the invasion of the Senate recently by a gang as a plot to discredit Senate President Bukola Saraki.

The chairman and secretary of the forum, Adamu Aliyu and Paul Nsong, respectively, told journalists at the weekend that the snatching of the mace was aimed at making the Saraki-led Senate chaotic and ungovernable.

“We condemn in an unequivocal manner, the assault and desecration of the hallowed chambers of the Nigerian Senate by hired hoodlums that resulted in the stealing of the mace, the symbol of authority of the Senate.

“All this infantile drama championed by a suspended senator, Ovie Omo-Agege, was in the bid to discredit the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and the entire leadership of the Senate so as to make the 8th Senate chaotic and ungovernable.

“We say without let or hindrance that this plot is all about Dr. Saraki, aimed to discrediting his leadership of the Senate and indeed his chairmanship of the National Assembly by giving him bad name and to present him before the public with a bad odium,” they said.

They expressed the forum’s support to the Senate president and asked senators to keep faith with his leadership.

“We further wish to state that the North Central zone and Nigerians are watching with keen interest these sordid developments in our national politics and therefore pledge to walk, to work, to fly or sink with Saraki, come rain and sunshine,” the forum added.
