135 teams to compete for Gov Dickson’s 2018 football tournament
The Bayelsa state government has said that no fewer than 135 teams have registered to participate in the 2018 Governor Seriake Dickson’s Football Tournament which started yesterday.
The State Commissioner for Sports, Mr Perekiye Buruboyefe, who disclosed this at the official draws and presentation of kits to the participating teams, added that about 106 communities would take part in the season two of the game tagged “Restoration Cup 2018.”
Buruboyefe, who also explained that the competition is aimed at taking sports development to the grassroots, noted that it would also go a long way in discovering talented footballers in the state.
“The game is to discover some budding talent in the state and I am sure that talents discovered would be utilized for future purposes,” he said.
Governor, Seriake Dickson, who was a special guest at the draws ceremony reiterated government commitment to sports development.
He said that state government was making plans to set up football clubs in all Bayelsa communities, and urged the participating teams to take advantage of the game.
Also speaking, Mr Ono Akpe, Director General of the competition, said that the game was strictly on knock-out basis and only the final two teams would be emerged from the eight local council areas of the state.
