‘Bauchi among pioneer states to inaugurate HDGC’
The Federal Ministry of Health has commended Bauchi State for being one of the pioneering states to inaugurate the Health Data Governance Council (HDGC) following its reactivation of the Health Data Consultative Committee (HDCC) as mandated by the National Health Information System policy 2014.
The Ministry, through the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, who was represented by Dr. Anthony Adoghe, stated this during the inauguration of the Health Data Governance Council in Jos at the weekend.
Daily Trust reports that Bauchi State had reactivated the HDCC last week in Jos and members held the first quarter meeting for 2018 to deliberate on modalities for data integration and improvement for Bauchi’s health sector.
As a technical advisory body, the HDCC is expected to make recommendations to the HDGC at both national and sub-national levels as recommended by the National Health Information System Policy 2014. Bauchi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Zuwaira Hassan, at the inauguration, said HDCC and HDGC are both supported by PLAN International Nigeria through its Bauchi Opportunities for Responsive Neonatal and Maternal Health project and supported by Global Affairs Canada.
Dr. Hassan said the HDCC will ensure effective articulation and coordination of inputs from the various data sources with a view to producing relevant, timely and up to date uniform health data.
