Troops kill 2 B/Haram militants, rescue elderly man

Troops under the Operation Lafiya Dole in Borno State have engaged Boko Haram insurgents at one of their hideouts, killing two of them and destroying the militants’ camp and equipment.

The troops also rescued an aged man who was held hostage by Boko Haram terrorists in the remote village of Gobara in Gwoza Local Government Area of the state.

Army Spokesman at the Theatre Command, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, disclosed this in a statement in Maiduguri yesterday.

He said in a rare display of bravery and humaneness, a Platoon Commander of the 192-Battalion, Lieutenant Asajuwon Ahmadu, rescued and personally carried the feeble aged man on his shoulders.

He said the rescued man is currently receiving medical attention at the 192-Battalion Medical Reception Centre, adding that during the offensive at Gobara, the troops uncovered and successful­ly detonated three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) buried by Boko Haram along the axis of advance at Damboa bridge, Fadakwe and Fadakwe Christian respective­ly.

“The troops also recovered 8-Dane guns, one G3 Magazine, one IED making device, one Unexploded Ordnance, three Tool boxes, three machetes, Length of electric cable and a Boko Haram flag.”

Col. Nwachukwu said the troops have also exploited further to clear Shiyadawe, Shiyadawe Bulama and Shiyadawe Fulani, in Gwoza. all
