Chairmanship: APC Reps endorse Oshiomhole

- By Musa Abdullahi Krishi

The Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives has endorsed a former Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, for the position of the party’s national chairman.

The APC Reps during a closed-door meeting with Oshiomhole at the National Assembly yesterday in Abuja expressed satisfaction with the ex-Edo governor and promised to give him their support.

Our correspondent gathered that the APC lawmakers discussed wide range of issues with Oshiomhole at the meeting, including how to unite the party ahead of 2019 elections.

Asked if it was true that the APC Caucus endorsed Oshiomhole, House Leader Femi Gbajabiamila (APC, Lagos) told our correspondent in a text message that it is “very true.”

Oshiomhole told the lawmakers that he was contesting for the chairmanship of the party to unite its members and ensure that nobody leaves.

“I am contesting for this position not because there is a vacuum, but because I have been an active member and I am convinced that we need to do something different to make our party stronger.

“A lot of things happening now in our party, the problems in some states would have been checked if we had an effective party administration. Though we are having issues because we are a progressive party, but with a proactive leadership all the issues will be resolved,” he said.

Earlier, Speaker Yakubu Dogara said APC must be united as the 2019 elections approached in order to face the polls as one family.
