DSP, five others quizzed over Lagos church attack
A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) attached to the Lagos State Task Force on Land Grabbers is presently being interrogated by detectives at the command headquarters for his alleged involvement in the attack on a church at Makoko area. Aside the DSP, five other policemen attached to the task force are also being interrogated. They were invited to the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, on the orders of the state Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal.
Their invitation was sequel to a petition by a lawyer and members of the church to the CP complaining of the actions of the policemen.
Addressing journalists on the alleged attack, Edgal said it was discovered that “On May 10 at about 2.15pm, men from the Lagos State Task Force on Land Grabbers, assisted by officers of the Nigeria Police Force, on an assignment to investigate the activities of land grabbers were attacked at Ilaje Community of Makoko in Yaba, by suspected land grabbers.”
Edgal said during the attack, three causalities were recorded.
He said he ordered a team of policemen to conduct a high powered investigation into the incident based on the complaint from members of the church and some prominent members of the community.
He said, “Presently, the leader of the police team has been relieved of his duty to make way for an unbiased investigation. His boys have also been invited for questioning. The outcome of the investigation will be made known to the public in due course.”
