Trial of Dasuki, Bafarawa begins July 9
An FCT High Court in Maitama has fixed July 9 for commencement of hearing in a fraud charge against former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki and former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa.
Dasuki and Bafarawa were re-arraigned yesterday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) along with a former minister of state for finance, Bashir Yuguda and Bafarawa’s son, Sagir on an amended 25-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of public funds.
EFCC’s counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) told the court that the prosecution had removed the name of the third defendant in the original charge, Salisu Shuaibu, a former Director of Finance and Supply in the Office of the NSA under Dasuki.
In the amended charge, Dasuki was accused of misappropriating and engaging in criminal breach of trust by dishonestly transferring the sum of N3.5billion into the account of Dalhatu Investment Limited, a company said to be owned by the Bafarawas.
Also, Bafarawa, Sagir and their company were charged with dishonestly receiving the sum of N4.6 billion from the Office of NSA, while Yuguda was alleged to have dishonestly misappropriated a sum of $9.8million, an equivalent of N1.9 billion and another N200 million he allegedly transferred to the bank account of Jabbama Ada Global Services.
