Immigratio­n recruitmen­t scandal: Court adjourns Moro’s matter until July 4

The Federal High Court, Abuja, has adjourned the ongoing trial of former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, and others on charges of recruitmen­t fraud until July 4.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed an 11-count charge against Moro, Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia, a former Permanent Secretary in the ministry, and Femi Alayebami, a Deputy Director in the ministry.

The other defendant is Drexel Tech. Nigeria Limited, the firm that carried out the ill-fated Nigeria Immigratio­n Service (NIS), recruitmen­t on behalf of the ministry.

When the matter was called, a prosecutio­n witness, Mr Aliyu Sufyana, told the court how $641,000 was paid into his account by Drexel Tech. Nigeria Limited, one of the defendants in the matter.

Sufyana, a bureau de change operator, said that upon receiving the dollars, he gave the money to one Biodun.

The witness, who gave his testimony through an interprete­r, also told the court that at the time of the transactio­n, the exchange rate was N158 to one dollar.

He also told the court he did not know any of defendants in the dock.

The Nigeria Immigratio­n Service (NIS), conducted recruitmen­t on March 15, 2014, that led to the death of 15 applicants, while several others sustained injuries. (NAN) that the
