Costa, Griezmann absent as Atletico name 20 for Eagles friendly
Strikers Diego Costa and Antoine Griezmann have been omitted from Atletico Madrid’s travelling squad for today’s GOtv Max Cup clash against Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The Spanish LaLiga giants however confirmed that former Chelsea forward Fernando Torres and other array of stars, will slug it out against the Super Eagles in the high profile international friendly today.
Torres, who got a brace for Atletico Madrid on Sunday in their 2-2 draw with Eibar in their last LaLiga match of the season, might hang his boot after the match against the CHAN Eagles.
In the 20-man squad announced yesterday, the Europa League champions will be led by head coach Diego Simeone.
In what promises to be a truly pulsating encounter, Simeone also named the club’s first choice keeper, Jan Oblak, veteran striker, Ghanaian star Thomas Partey, captain, Gabi Fernandez.
The LaLiga giants’ famously known for their intensive and aggressive style of play are considered by analysts as good test for the Super Eagles ahead of the World Cup where they stand a chance of coming up against sides with similar playing patterns.
At the World Cup, which kicks off on 14 June in Russia, the Super Eagles will play in Group D of the preliminary round against Argentina, Croatia and Iceland. and club
