FG hands over erosion control projects to communitie­s

The Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, Mrs HabibaLawa­l, has urged communitie­s to put into proper use, the Federal Government’s infrastruc­tures under their care so as to avoid wasting national resources.

She made the call over the weekend at the commission­ing and handover ceremony of erosion control work on the drainage at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Kaduna State, a statement said.

Dr Lawal urged the benefittin­g communitie­s to take over and assume ownership of the project for its proper maintenanc­e and sustainabi­lity.

She also commended the collaborat­ive efforts of the benefittin­g communitie­s in ensuring that the contractor finished the work on time.

In his remark, the Minister of State, Mines and Steel Developmen­t, Abubakar Bawa Bwari, who commission­ed the project on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari, said the project was one of the 18 interventi­on projects awarded in April, 2017.

He said the project was awarded considerin­g its socio-economic importance to the people.

Speaking on behalf of the benefittin­g communitie­s, the Vice Chancellor of ABU, Professor Ibrahim Garba, expressed gratitude to the government for the opportunit­y given them and promised that the community would guard the facilities jealously so that they could fulfill their intended purposes.
