Gunmen kidnap commissioner’s wife, twin babies in Zamfara
The residence of the Zamfara State Commissioner for Youths and Skills Acquisition Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammad Gurbin Baure has been raided by gunmen who also kidnapped his wife, twin babies and one other woman.
Confirming the incident to Daily Trust yesterday, Gurbin Baure said the gunmen arrived his residence in Gurbin Baure town around 2am and abducted his wife, her year-old twins and a girl. A chief magistrates’ court in Kaduna has ordered the remand of a security guard, Olafy Michael, 63, over alleged defiling of a three-year-old girl.
The magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, said the defendant should be remanded in prison custody, pending legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Emmanuel gave the order following an application by the Prosecutor, Asp. Chidi Oke, that the defendant be remanded.
The magistrate then adjourned the matter until June 5 when the case would come up for mention. (NAN)
However, he kept mute on whether ransom was demanded by the abductors so far or any form of negotiation has commenced.
“I was in Gusau, the state capital when the gunmen invaded my personal residence and made away with my family. I can’t precisely tell you their motive because they had earlier kidnapped one woman and her child,” he added.
Gurbin Baure is a town along the Katsina-Zamfara border, which also shares boundary with Niger Republic.
The spokesman of the state police command DSP Muhammad Shehu said Search and Rescue Team had been dispatched by the Command and intense manhunt for the kidnappers had commenced.
He said the state commissioner of police Mr Kenneth Ebrimson had spoken with his counterpart in Katsina state on the matter and the two commands are synergising to ensure that the victims are rescued hale and hearty.
