Impeachment: Jibrin risks another suspension
Three months after recall, a member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin (APC, Kano) may be risking another suspension following his remarks that Tuesday’s joint closed-door session of the National Assembly was a ‘PDPs affair.’
Similar fate also awaits Muhammad Gudaji Kazaure (APC, Jigawa) who told journalists on Tuesday that two members of the lower chamber, namely Nicholas Ossai (PDP, Delta) and Kingsley Chinda (PDP, Rivers) were collecting signatures to impeach President Mohammadu Buhari.
The comments drew the angst of their colleagues, who said the two lawmakers must be investigated to ascertain the veracity of their claims. Jibrin is not new to suspension he had spent over a year out of the House. In a point of order during plenary yesterday, Sunday Karimi (APC, Kogi) had notified the House of the negative implications of the utterances on the image of the House and individual legislators.
Responding, Kingsley Chinda, who was one of those fingered by Kazaure to be collecting signatures, urged his colleagues to ignore the duo but look critically into the matters they raised before the press.
Speaker Dogara assured the lawmakers that the House must investigate the matter since it was a case of privilege.
“For Abdulmumin, we will investigate the matter, but that of Kazaure is left to the executive.”
