I poured hot water on my husband to save my life — Suspect
The police in Lagos have arrested a woman, Joy Imeribe, for allegedly pouring hot water on her husband at the Ijesha area of Lagos state.
Police said that the woman had intended to kill her husband over minor domestic quarrel.
The husband, Ibe Akachi, is battling to save his life in undisclosed hospital in the metropolise.
Joy who was paraded yesterday by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, told journalists that she did it on self-defense.
She said: “Akachi is really not my husband because he has not paid my dowry. Although, I have four children for him, but in my tradition, he is not yet my husband probably that was why he used to beat me at any slightest provocation. He is a caring husband but he was no longer providing food for his family. I have stretched myself trying to provide for my children”, she said.
“On the fateful day, I left the house very early to Yaba where I sell used cloths. I couldn’t get enough sales. So, I delayed to get reasonable quantity of materials for sale. I returned home late at around 9 pm and my lover dragged me inside the house and started punching on me with blows and slaps. I was crying for help but he locked the door behind us so as to prevent anyone from assisting me. He beat me till dawn and I became sick. I feared that if I did not resist him, he might kill me, so I poured hot water on him in self-defense and that was when he left me”, she said.
She said after the incident, she had started regretting her action because he is still the father of the children.
Her husband, Akachi had told the police that his wife had been coming back late and when he reprimanded her, she started abusing him and poured him jot water that nearly killed him.
Edgal, said the suspect allegedly emptied half bucket of hot water on her husband, Akachi, thereby scalding his body so badly.
The Police Commissioner said Imeribe will be charged to court after investigation is concluded.
