Man docked for impersonat­ing former IGP, Smith’s son

A middle aged man, Afeez Smith, who has allegedly been posing as the son of a retired Inspector General of Police (IGP), Musliu Smith, has been arraigned before an Ondo chief magistrate­s’ court.

The accused was arrested by the police and brought before the court on a fivecount charge of fraud, stealing and unlawful possession of property.

Smith had earlier been arrested by policemen attached to Yaba Police Station in Ondo, Ondo State, for claiming to be a biological son of a former Inspector General of Police and present Chairman, Police Service Commission, Mr. Musiliu Smith. He was said to have used the name to defraud members of the public in Ondo town, including policemen.

He was also accused of obtained N750,000 from one Fabode Akinsola under the guise of supplying a Toyota Corolla car to the victim.

He was also alleged to have recently, within the magisteria­l district, stole sum cash sums from Akinlade Ajibola, Komalafe Abiodun and Akinbobola Olukayode.

When the charge sheet was read to him, he pleaded not guilty to all the five-count charge. Police Prosecutor, Olagbayi Bernard asked for a short adjournmen­t to enable him study the case file and assemble all his witnesses to prosecute the case.

Counsels to the accused, O.O. Afolayan and Ikuemonisa­n, prayed the court to grant the accused bail on liberal term, saying he would not jump bail.

In her ruling, Magistrate B.F Ajibade granted the accused bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum. She, thereafter, adjourned the case to July 4, 2018, for hearing.
