Military ambushes insurgents, kills 4 in Borno

Troops of the 192-Battalion under Operation Lafiya Dole have ambushed some Boko Haram insurgents along Lokodisa in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno state, killing three of them and recovering many weapons.

Army spokesman at the Theatre Command in Maiduguri, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, said in a statement yesterday that acting on reliable intelligen­ce, the troops staged the ambush in the early hours of yesterday neutralisi­ng the terrorists after a gun duel. The troops also recovered three Dane guns, five bicycles and a trolley.

“In a separate encounter, troops of the 145-Battalion deployed in the 8-Task Force Division Area of responsibi­lity have killed a Boko Haram terrorist at Gashigar in Abadam Local Government Area, also in the state. The terrorist was killed during a failed attempt by fleeing terrorists to escape through an identified route used by the insurgents,” he said.

Col. Nwachukwu said the troops also recovered one AK 47 rifle and one magazine loaded with 25 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition from the insurgents.

Meanwhile, refugees from 38 returnee Zigage in the Republic of Cameroon were yesterday received by the troops of the 3-Battalion at Gamboru in Ngala Local Government Area of the state.

The refugees comprising 11 men, six women and 21 children were profiled and handed over to officials of Gamboru Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps.
