Sallah: 3 injured as police clash with fun seekers in Kano

Police have clashed with fun seekers at the Ado Bayero Mall (Shoprite) in Kano, leaving three persons with gunshot injuries Daily Trust gathered.

The clashes which continued yesterday evening started on Sunday when the fun seekers mostly youths in their thousands were prevented by mobile police personnel from entering the shopping mall to catch fun for Eid el-Fitr celebratio­n.

A witnesses who spoke to Daily Trust said trouble started around 9pm on Sunday when some of the fun seekers got angry and started hurling stones at security operatives after they were denied entry into the event centre.

A witness, Abdullahi Mohammed, said “Yesterday (Sunday) around 9pm some groups of youth came and stood by the gate of the shopping mall but the Mopol probably felt uncomforta­ble with them and decided to disperse them by use of force and the youth on their part regrouped and started hurling stones at the security operatives. In response the police opened fire and three of the fun seekers were hit.”

He said windshield­s of some of the vehicles parked within the premises of the shopping mall were damaged by the angry youth during the fracas.

Another eye witness, Malam Muhammad A. Muhammad confirmed that three persons were shot Sunday evening in his presence. He however affirmed that no life as a result of the injuries.

He said two of victims were shot their legs, while other was shot in arm.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Magaji Musa Majia denied that policemen shot the fun seekers saying the police on guard duty at Shoprite did not fire any shots.
