Sokoto Education Devt Levy fund hits N600m

Sototo State Education Developmen­t Levy Fund has reached over N600m, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has disclosed.

He also said the state government would soon donate N500m to the State Consultati­ve Committee on Education Developmen­t headed by Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

The state government had last year introduced education levy to be deducted from the salaries of civil and public servants in Sokoto State.

Civil servants on Grade Levels 1 to 6 were to pay one per cent of their basic salaries, those on Grade Levels 7 to 12, one and a half percent and those on Grade levels 13 to 16, two per cent.

Speaking at 16th Annual General Meeting of the Sokoto State Education Developmen­t Trust Fund (SEDTF) at the weakened, the governor said the money realised by the committee through education levy showed commitment by the civil servants to make Sokoto State a role model in the area of education.

The Sultan of Sokoto said the Consultati­ve Committee would ensure judicious utilizatio­n of all funds accruing to it.

The royal father who was represente­d by the secretary of the committee Abubakar Muhammad Gidadawa said the money realised would be used in the constructi­on of classrooms and toilet facilities, among others.

Chairman, Board of Trustees SEDTF, Second Republic President Alhaji Shehu Shagari, represente­d by the Madawakin Gwandu, Alhaji Idris Koko, said its focus was on enhancing education and economic empowermen­t of the people of the state.

Also speaking, Chairman Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, disclosed that Federal Polytechni­c, Silame and Federal College of Education, Sabon Birni might soon be establishe­d in Sokoto State.
