Scores abducted on Birnin-Gwari road

Gunmen abducted of travelers Kaduna-Birnin road.

The men were traveling in a long vehicle said to be heading to Lagos when they were stopped by the gunmen around a small village near Buruku.

A driver, Malam Awalu, who witnessed the incident, said the gunmen shot at the tyre of the vehicle which yesterday scores on the -Gwari was used cement.

He said the truck had emptied the cement bags it brought to Kaduna and was returning with scores of people to Lagos when the men tried to stop then and shot at the tyres.

“When the vehicle stopped, the gunmen asked all the people in the vehicle to come down and they led them into the bush,” he said.

He said 16 of the men however ran back as they were being led further into to transport the bush but said he did not see the gunmen pursue them.

“I cannot tell you the exact number of men that they abducted but they were many in the trailer. But 16 of them ran back in the opposite direction,” he said.

The driver said he saw two other vehicles parked by the side of the road but cannot tell whether their passengers were also victims of abduction.

The police public relations officer ASP Mukhtar Hussaini Aliyu, when contacted, said reports from that axis indicated there was an attempt by some gunmen on Wednesday to stop some vehicles on that route, but that the police quickly moved in and chased the bandits.

The PPRO said he spoke with both the Divisional Police Officer and the area commander and there was no report of abduction of Thursday.

He said the police were combing the area with a few to preventing such.
