We paid June salary without FAAC — Wike
Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike said his administration paid June salaries without releases from Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) because of careful financial engineering. The World Bank has appointed Kaduna State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Muhammad Abdullahi as a member of its Expert Advisory Council on citizen engagement.
The announcement, posted on the bank’s website, said Abdullahi, a Development Economist, will join five new appointees on the council.
The others include Tonye Cole, co-founder and Executive Director of the Sahara Group, Africa; Flavia Milano, Civil Society Specialist,
The governor, who spoke after inspecting projects yesterday, said workers’ welfare was a top priority of his administration.
He said: “Our business is to pay workers’ salaries, do projects and develop the state.
“We had to do some financial engineering to Vice Presidency for Countries, Inter-American Development Bank; Helena Bjuremalm, Senior Advisor on Civil Society Support and Engagement, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) Civil Society Unit; and Emily Martinez: Director, Human Rights Initiative, Open Society Foundations.
Abdullahi along with the other appointees would advise on development and implementation of a strategic framework for mainstreaming citizen engagement in World Bank Group operations.
Abdullahi, who confirmed the appointment to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, described the development as a rear privilege.
According to him, this is the first time a Nigerian would be appointed as a member in the council.” (NAN) accommodate workers’ salaries, while projects are still going on. We came to serve and there are no excuses.”
Wike inspected the construction of the Bonny-Bille-Nembe Jetty that would serve Rivers riverine communities and their Bayelsa neighbours.
