- From Hope Abah, Makurdi

The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) yesterday restated its call for the restructuring of Nigeria for the purpose of equity and justice.

Legal Adviser of the Forum, Barr. Mark Jacob, who led the adoption of the Makurdi Declaration at the MBF’s twoday conference held at the IBB Square in Makurdi, stated five salient points which was accepted by the crowded participants drawn from various states of the region.

The forum rejected the structure of the present Nigeria state and endorsed the restructuring of the country into eight regions with an additional two to be created in the middle belt.

It also proposed a new Nigeria with a single President and three Vice Presidents while adopting the recommendation of the 2014 national conference as well as requesting that same be made available to the National Assembly to pass it into law.

The forum also stated strongly in what they described as the ongoing genocide in the middle belt to stop forthwith as they have also resolved that no one would stop them as a people from defending their land donated to them by God.

Other speakers at the conference including as Governors Darius Ishaku (Taraba) and Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Chairman of the Middle Belt Elders’ Forum, Commodore Dan Suleiman and Prof. Jerry Gana, also stressed the need for the country’s reconstruction as they all posited that the current constitution is defective.
