‘Bama attack blown out of proportion’

- By Ruby Leo

The Nigeria Army yesterday said though Boko Haram terrorists had attempted an attack on troops at Kwakwa and Chingori communities in Bama area of Borno State they were repelled by troops.

A statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Texas Chukwu said the terrorists planned the attack when they realised vehicles of the Army were bugged down due to difficult terrain in Bama.

He said the terrorists also attempted to cart away troops operational vehicles, “but were successfully repelled by our gallant troops with the support of the Nigerian Air Force.”

Chukwu said troops ýkilled 22 members of the Boko Haram terrorists, while several others escaped gunshot wounds.

“Unfortunately, one officer and a soldier sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at the military medical facility,” he said.

The Army spokesman said “The Nigerian Army wishes to state categorically that the report is not only untrue but misleading as the said report is blown out of proportion by the media.”

Chukwu also said in separate statement denied reports that Boko Haram attacked Adamawa State at the weekend and hoisted a flag after the attack.

He described the report as a calculated attempt to drag the Nigerian Army into the mud despite its numerous successes recorded against the terrorists. with
