FG: We won’t rest until communal wars are over

- From Eyo Charles, Calabar

The federal government is working to ensure that all communal wars in the country, particularly in Cross River State are amicably resolved, Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Dambazzau has said.

He stated this when he visited the acting governor of the state, Prof Ivara Esu on Monday as part of measures to ensure that incessant interstate boundary clashes between Cross River and Ebonyi states are resolved.

The minister particularly stressed on the ongoing Igbeagu community in Izzi local government area of Ebonyi State and their neighbours Ukelle in Yala local government area of Cross River State which has already led to loss of many lives and destruction of properties.

He said the government is much concerned and will not rest until they were able to resolve the issues surrounding clashes.

“As a member of the committee I am mandated to look into this particular case of Cross River and Ebonyi states, which to a large extent affects farming communities. This conflict is about land which the people depend on for survival because most of the people are farmers. It is important to look at how these conflicts impact on food security in the country,” he said.

Acting Governor, Prof Ivara Esu, expressed frustration over the conflict, saying there was a meeting with his Ebonyi counterpart two weeks ago after which the clash continued.
