‘How we robbed night club with toy guns’

- From Eugene Agha, Lagos

An armed robbery suspect, Stephen Joseph, arrested by detectives attached to the Lagos State police command has confessed to how he and other members of his gang robbed a night club at Lekki, Lagos, armed with a plastic gun.

Joseph said that they had actually succeeded with the robbery only to run into a police patrol van at the Falomo under-bridge while speeding away.

He said, “Though we go on robbery operations with real guns, we entered this particular night club to rob with toy guns so there would be no casualties.”

Joseph confessed that on July 15, 2018, at about 2am, he and three others went to rob a night club at Lekki. A police patrol team, however, sighted them after their operation and gave them a chase inward the Ikota Jakande area.

As they sped away, their unregistered red Toyota Camry entered a ditch. They quickly snatched another Toyota Camry. The vehicle, with its four occupants, were, however, intercepted by policemen at the Falomo under-bridge.

According to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, the suspects jumped off the vehicle with a black bag and took to their heels, but the police team chased them and arrested Stephen Joseph. Upon searching the vehicle, a revolver pistol and a black toy gun were allegedly recovered from the back seat where they were concealed.

The police are still hunting other gang members. for the
